Origin Story
It all started in a kitchen with a pot and a jar.
Honestly, I was bored. I have ADHD and jump from hobby to hobby. My second baby was just over a year and it had been a while since I had had any time for a hobby. I watched a lot of YouTube while breastfeeding and I loved watching candle makers. Of course, my ADHD brain said "I can do that". So I did that. I made a candle. Then I made another and another. Soon I was making and giving away more candles than I knew what to do with. At some point, someone said "Hey, you should sell these". So I did that.
Sage & Spire was born in my kitchen, has moved houses with me, and grown in the basement of that new home. I do it for my family, and I do it for me. I do it because I love making candles and I love sharing those candles with others.
The Name
Sage & Spire, of course, has some personal meaning behind it.
Part One: Sage
Sage is a plant that is prominant in Native culture for cleansing a space and calming. Full disclosure, I am not Native. But my family is. My husband and my children are. I married into this culture and make it a priority to teach my children where they come from. Sage is a nod to the calming ability of candles, but more of a nod to my family and their unending support.
Part Two: Spire
A spire is the tallest point of something. The peak of a mountain, the top of a tower. To me, it means reaching for your full potential; never giving up even if the climb is hard.
So, a steady base and high ambition. Both things I need to grow.
